Butterbrot ("we," "our," or "us"), operated by Exercise Is Gratitude, LLC, provides the Butterbrot mobile application for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect and Receive
Unlike entirely anonymous apps, Butterbrot offers features like user personalization, progress tracking, and account synchronization. When you use the Application, we collect the following limited categories of information:
- Account Authentication Data: If you choose to create an account using third-party sign-in providers (Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In), we receive and store your unique provider user ID, email address, and the name associated with that social login account.
- User Content and Personalization: We store the custom nicknames you choose for your profile and the specific vocabulary items you choose to "favorite" within the Application.
- Usage and Progress Data: To help you build habits, we track and store your application interaction metrics, including your app launch frequency and daily usage streaks.
2. Data Storage & Synchronization
To keep your vocabulary history, streaks, and preferences safe, your data is processed and stored in two ways:
- Local Device Storage: Your configuration data, nicknames, daily streaks, and favorites are stored locally on your physical Apple device via secure iOS storage frameworks.
- Cloud Infrastructure: To allow you to access your progress across multiple devices, account profiles, nicknames, favorited vocabulary, and daily streak counts are securely transmitted to and stored on our remote servers/database infrastructure.
3. Third-Party Authentication Services
We do not sell your personal data or share it with data brokers or advertising networks. However, we utilize trusted third-party providers to securely handle account logins:
- Google Sign-In: Operated by Google LLC. Google's data handling is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
- Sign in with Apple: Operated by Apple Inc. Apple's data handling is subject to the Apple Privacy Policy.
4. iOS Permissions
To provide core routine functionality, Butterbrot may request specific system permissions on your device. You have full control over these and can revoke them at any time via your iOS Settings app:
- Notifications: Used strictly to send you local alerts and reminders for your daily routines. These notifications are processed entirely on-device and do not use remote push servers.
5. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Our application is not structured to attract children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information through our social login features, we will delete that information from our servers immediately.
6. User Rights & Account Deletion (GDPR / CCPA / App Store Compliance)
Depending on your location, you hold legal rights regarding your personal information, including the rights to access, correct, or erase your data. We provide simple tools to manage this directly:
- In-App Account Deletion: In strict alignment with Apple App Store guidelines, you can permanently delete your account and all associated cloud data at any time from within the App Settings interface. Choosing this option completely wipes your login metadata, custom nicknames, daily streak metrics, and favorited vocabulary history from our remote storage systems.
- App Removal: Deleting the Butterbrot application from your device will clear all locally cached files on that specific hardware, but will not automatically remove your account data from our cloud servers unless you use the in-app account deletion tool first.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may periodically update our Privacy Policy to reflect app optimization or compliance changes. Any modifications will be posted directly to this web page with an updated "Effective Date." We encourage you to review this page periodically for any adjustments.
